The Different Types of Sheet Metals You Should Be Aware Of

Sheet metals are basically metal sheets that have a thickness of less than 6mm. They are processed through cold working metal which involves a number of practices such as cutting, shearing, punching, riveting, folding, etc. These sheets are majorly used in household, commercial, semi-commercial and industrial sectors. Produced by almost all the large steel companies in India, metal sheets are known to be of different types.

Steel and its alloys are some of the most commonly used resources in the industrial world. Given their strength and stability, they become suitable for multiple applications.

Cold Rolled Sheet: Cold rolled sheets are made from cold metal- a homogenous composition that makes it different from other metal sheets. Its uniqueness allows it to be perfectly used for industrial applications such as racks, wall and roof systems, and other structural parts.

Hot Rolled Sheet: Hot rolled sheets are prepared in a different manner. The metal is molten and then rolled into a flat sheet while it is still hot. This gives it a good conductivity but at the same time makes it a bit different to a machine. These sheets are used in making components for garage gates and doors.

Sub-types: Mild steel, an alloy, is one of the main subtypes of cold-rolled metal. It is known to be strong and ductile and can be easily machined. Due to these qualities, it is often molded into rectangular and square bars and round rolls. Another subtype of the sheet metals is the A36 mild steel. This can be molded into a greater variety of shapes but is also difficult to machine. It has a rough surface and is not as strong as its counterpart.

In all the varieties of steel sheet metal, the carbon component is not more than 0.3% and never less than 0.18%. These are important specifications that need to be checked when you go shopping for such materials. Another subtype of the hot-rolled sheet is A653 galvanized steel. The galvanization process is done when the metal is still in its molten form and extremely hot. It is at this point when the zinc coating is added to it. The coating prevents it from corrosion making the final product rust-resistant and corrosion-resistant.

If you are looking for steel sheet metals for any household or commercial project, JSW is a great option. They are one of the best steel companies in the country and make reliable products. Having been in business for the past many years, JSW has made quite a name for itself in the steel industry.
