Common Commercial Roofs and Roofing Materials You Should Know

There are various types of commercial roofs, where each one has a particular set of features and caters to certain needs. Besides these factors, choosing the roofing material also depends on the budget of the owner. One must put some thought before installing the roof of the commercial property as it will play a very significant part in the overall durability and longevity of the building. Few factors that should be taken into consideration before installation are the surrounding environment, weather, and, foliage, etc.
Commonly, commercial roofs are either flat or low slope, which narrows down the options available for roofing materials. The common roof classifications are:
BUILT-UP ROOFING MEMBRANE
The common standard tar-and-gravel roof is also known as Built-up roofing, or “BUR”. This type of roofing material has multiple layers (piles) where the number of layers can be controlled depending on the budget or durability requirements of the roof. This type is a traditional low-slope roofing system and one of the most budget-friendly and tough roofing types found in the market.
METAL ROOFING
The most common type of roofing material used is metal. This is owing to the various kinds of metal materials like steel roofing sheets that prove to be useful for a roofing system. Common metals include:
  •         Corrugated galvanized steel
  •         Aggregates of zinc, aluminum, and silicon-coated steel
  •         Metal tile sheets
  •         Copper
  •         Aluminum
  •         Stainless steel
  •         Stone-coated steel
  •          Tin
  •         Lead

In many cases, metal rust, which is why a protective coating is applied on the metal roof to avoid damage from prolonged exposure to sun and other environmental dangers. However, with metal roofing, one can get budget-friendly and durable roofing materials that are attractive, have a good finish and align with the home décor.
THERMOSET ROOF MEMBRANE
The thermoset roof system is also referred to as EPDM roofing that is long-lasting, highly durable and versatile. Compared to its counterparts, this roofing system is simple to install and requires very little maintenance/repair cost over the years. EPDM is manufactured while ensuring that it develops very strong resistance to ultraviolet light and ozone.
It is constructed from a single-ply rubber material has good flexibility, especially in colder temperatures; resistance to various types of acids, solvents, and alcohol, etc.
THERMOPLASTIC ROOF MEMBRANE
The material used in this type of roofing system, Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) and Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC), are lightweight, highly reflective, and have developed excellent resistance to weathering, various UV light, punctures/tears, and chemicals that include oils, animal fats, etc. This application has insane strength offered by and is considered ideal for second-generation applications, in most cases. This is why thermoplastic roof membrane is so widely used in restaurants and other businesses where oils and/or fats emission is common.
Buy roofing sheets from renowned brands like JSW as their steel, gi or tin sheet price is very reasonable.
