TMT Bars and its Benefits

It is indeed true and can be accepted that TMT bars are the backbone of every construction in the present time. Be it the house where we stay or the office where we work or even the flyovers where we see thousands of vehicles plying over modern structures of shapes and sizes get their strength from TMT steel bars interwoven through them.

Thermo-mechanically treated bars or TMT bars are processed by tempcore based technology that results into high yielding strength in them. In the process, the hot iron bars are rolled through a series of water jets and are later cooled. This allows the core and surface temperatures to equalize while keeping the inner core soft. This process ultimately creates robust bars that are extremely strong on the outer surface and are ductile in the inside.

There has been an increase in demand for steel and the importance of using TMT bars for construction purposes. While these bars have made an impact on the mind of house and business owners, here are few benefits of using TMT bars for construction purposes:

Great welding ability

TMT bars have a distinct advantage as they have great ductility and bending abilities. With better working ability and elongation property, they are extensively used in the construction industry. With pre-welded meshes they bring down construction and fabrication time, eleminating the need of manual binding.

Resistance to corrosion

One of the prime concern of engineers and residents is regarding whether or not they are resistant to corrosion. Provided with anti-corrosive properties, these TMT bars undergoes a controlled water colling process that prevents the formation of coarse carbides. Along with this, the absence of surface stress also makes it resistant to corrosion which ultimately increases the longevity of structures.

Fire resistant

It becomes necessary to check for items used for constructional purposes of their ability to resist fire. TMT bars are boosted with high thermal stability such that they are capable of resisting temperature as high as 600°C, ensuring a safe and sound stay.

Resistance to earthquake

TMT bars with their soft pearlite core bears up with the seismic and dynamic loading thus providing resistance to earthquake. Of thier high ductility these bars are amplified with high fatigue resistance to seismic loads. Because of this property, TMT bars are widely used in areas that are prone to earthquake.

Great bonding strength

One of the major advantages of using TMT bars is because of its superior bonding strength. With the external rib running across the length of the bar, enables great bonding between the concrete and the bar.

With TMT bars finding their usage in various avenues, they are extensively used for almost every heavy constitutional works. From the making of bridges to high profile dams to the construction of skyscrapers to that of various industrial structures, TMT bars have found its way towards modern construction.  One of the largest manufacturers of steel, such as JSW produces the finest quality of primary sariya which can be used for various constructional purposes.
